Michael Ackland is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist who performs surgery at New England Baptist Hospital. He has practiced since 1985.
His clinical work covers the shoulder, knee and elbow, surgical and non-surgical, with a long-standing concentration in work-related injury and the documentation those claims depend on. He also takes referrals for revision surgery where a previous operation has not resolved the problem.
He is certified as an expert examiner for the Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents, and has treated workers’ compensation patients in the state for more than twenty years. That combination is unusual. It means the same surgeon who treats the injury also understands, in detail, the documentation the claim will be judged on.
Dr. Ackland teaches arthroscopic surgical technique internationally, including in Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, and the Philippines. He has published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and the Journal of Pediatric Orthopedics, and he founded the Ackland Sports Medicine Foundation. He sees patients in English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish.
