Labral Repair

Post Operative Rehabilitation Protocol Shoulder Arthroscopic Labral Repair

Procedure:

SLAP Repair I, II, III, IV (circle one)(No biceps strengthening for 6-8 weeks)
Subacromial Decompression

Distal Clavicle Excision (If a distal clavicle excision is performed, horizontal adduction is restricted for 8 weeks post-op)

Biceps Tenodesis (*Please remember that this procedure will require the patient to abstain from active elbow flexion and wrist supination for 6 weeks).

Weeks of Physical Therapy 4 8 12 16 Days/week 1 2 3 4 5

Precautions:

Sling for 6 weeks

Avoid forceful forearm supination and elbow flexion for first 6 weeks.

Avoid lifting objects greater than 1-2lbs for the first 8 weeks.

Avoid reaching behind back and head for 8 weeks.

If biceps tenodesis avoid forearm supination and elbow flexion for first 6 weeks.

Phase I

Goals:

Weeks 0-3

Weeks 3-6 AAROM & PROM

Weeks 6-10

PHASE II

: Intermediate phase

Goals:

Weeks 10-14

PHASE III:

Advanced strengthening phase

Goals:

Criteria to enter Phase III:

Weeks 14-16

PHASE IV:

Return to sports (unrestricted)

 

Criteria to enter Phase IV:Full nonpainful ROM

Exercises:
